Improved billing failure context

Improvement

Billing

Billing failures now carry the specific reason a charge didn't go through, so your audit log reads "Billing failed on Aug 4 due to Expired card" instead of a generic decline.

Shopify returns far more detail on why a payment fails than it used to, and Skio maps each of those causes to a plain-English label rather than passing along a raw code you'd have to go look up. Where a batch of failures used to look identical, you can now tell an expired card from an incorrect ZIP, from a 3DS prompt the customer never answered, from a currency your gateway won't take, and those are four different conversations with four different fixes rather than one undifferentiated pile of declines. Anything new that shows up later gets humanized automatically, so your log stays readable instead of filling with enums nobody on your team can decode. Dunning and retry behavior are unchanged, so this surfaces better reasons without touching what happens after a failure, and it applies going forward only, which means attempts that failed before the cutover keep whatever reason they were recorded with.

What this buys you is diagnosis, because staring at a wall of generic declines you can't tell whether you have a card-aging problem, an authentication problem, or a gateway configuration problem, and each one sends you somewhere different.
